Phonics Readers

A good knowledge of phonics helps with both reading and spelling. Each of these books focuses on one sound, helping to isolate the sound and the letters that make it. At the end of each set of identical or similar sounds, a book combines all of them, allowing the child to practice recognizing all of the ways to create that sound or sounds. The books are not illustrated, which allows children to practice comprehension skills by drawing the pictures. Drawing and coloring are also enjoyable activities, giving the child a break from worksheets. The books come with suggestions for several ways in which to use the books to reinforce the sounds in each book. Each group of books is usable on its own or in succession. Each book uses only the specific sounds noted on the front cover as much as possible, although each successive group uses a few sounds from the previous groups. Each book is a simple story, 4-8 pages long.
